LEARNING CONGRATULATIONS

CONGRATULATIONS TO THESE AWESOME LEARNERS WHO ACHIEVED THEIR 10 STICKERS FOR ALWAYS SHOWING THEIR VALUES.

SIONE, RICKSON, AND ELENISI HAVE BEEN WORKING HARD THIS YEAR.

THEY HAVE SHOWN PERSEVERANCE BY TAKING LOTS OF RISKS IN THEIR LEARNING, AND SHARING THEIR THINKING WITH OTHERS AND ASKING LOTS OF QUESTIONS TO INQUIRE MORE!

TALOFA LAVA. Welcome to our new learner.

We give a warm and friendly Talofa Lava and welcome to our new friend Falea'ana Utailesolo.

Falea'ana comes from the beautiful island of Samoa.

Fa'afetai Lava to his new friends Sione, Stefan and Tualagi, who help translate in Samoan.

Mrs Aiavao is so lucky to have these helpful learners who help communicate in English and Samoan.

BUTTERFLY DISCOVERY - ROOM 3 DUTY DOCTORS

Look what Room 3 discovered in our ESOL mini garden!            LOOK CLOSELY!

Awwwwww!  Mrs Aiavao we have to rescue the butterfly before someone hurts it.  'Come on little butterfly'.

We OBSERVED closely.  It's wings were not working and it had a broken leg..
'Poor little butterfly,' said Divya.

'It laid eggs, so now it will die.  That's what happens when a butterfly lays it's eggs. It's a lifecycle,' said Taeia.

'Let's rescue it', said Alex and Junior.

We showed DUTY by taking the beautiful butterfly to a safe place to die.

Gentle does it!  Musn't touch it's wings!  The butterfly liked Alex, be so soft and gentle.

A safe place at last to rest in peace!

ROOM 3 BUTTERFLY DUTY-DOCTORS completed their rescue!
Job done!

CONSERVATION TERM 2 - REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE

CONSERVATION TERM 2 - Learning Snippets!

.
Thank you Mrs Rihari and Whaea Donna for teaching us about 'Plastic Planet'- We were sad to see how we are destroying our planet and our sea creatures with the plastic bags we use. We learnt how we can make a big difference, by using REUSEABLE material bags to REDUCE rubbish.
What can you use instead of plastic bags, when you do grocery shopping?
Kaitiaki - guardians or caretakers of our earth.  We set up a REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE centre, sorting rubbish into the 3R's.  Now we will think before we throw things into the rubbish.  We can REUSE OR RECYCLE our rubbish to REDUCE the harm on our earth.
What can you do to REDUCE rubbish?  What else can you do to be good KAITIAKI in our world?
REDUCE - Use less, make less

REUSE -  Use again

RECYCLE - make into something new or something else!

RECYCLING FOOD SCRAPS TO GROW NEW...
We cleared all the old weeds out of our sad old mini garden.

More weeds.. can't eat these.

Preparing the soil.

Ooooooooy... Goooooey.. fun!

Bokchoy - these leaves popped out of a piece of bokchoy left over from Mrs Aiavao's dinner.  WE wonder how big it will grow?  We wonder what it will taste like? Mmmmm can't wait to try.
REUSING VEGETABLE SCRAPS TO GROW NEW VEGETABLES!!! NO WAY!!!

POTATO SKINS TO GROW NEW POTATES? HUH?

EGG SHELLS - snails enemy!!!  One slide against these sharp edges and your dust snails!
Did you know snails eat vege leaves?

KUMARA PEELINGS grow NEW KUMARA?  HUH?

Hopefully with...

water, sun, love and good clean oxygen these peelings will grow into new veges.
